We love plants and flowers here at The Cove, and one of our favorites is our ‘Night Blooming Cereus’. Epiphyllum oxypetalum (Dutchman’s pipe cactus or queen of the night) is a species of cactus and one of the most cultivated species in the genus. E. oxypetalum blooms rarely and only at night, and its flowers wilt before dawn.
Our lifeguard stand in Gillis Pond… Beginning in June of this year the water level on Gillis Pond was close to 4′ below the high water mark. Since that time, thunderstorms, tropical storms and Hurricanes have contributed over 5′ of water here at Tranquilla Cove!
Fresh cut oak thanks to Hurricane Irma…
After Hurricane Irma came through last month, numerous trees were downed throughout the area. I drove my truck around the neighborhoods and countryside and collected as much as I could handle…three truck loads of oak. This wood will need to sit for a year and season before burning in the wood stove.
